For 40 years, New Life Prison Ministries has specialized in providing Bible study curriculum courses free-of-charge to inmates and chaplains at correctional institutions all across Canada.
Our focus is on developing an interactive relationship with the inmate by assigning one of our many dedicated volunteers to walk them through our 90 study courses. Our commitment is to read every letter, respond with personal and caring guidance and assist with resources where able. Through our partnership with Prison Fellowship Canada, aftercare support is available to help ex-offenders re-integrate after release from prison. Our History
About our Founders
New Life Prison Ministries, (initially New Life Film Ministry), was born in 1980 when two young brothers, eager to share the good news of Jesus Christ, approached officials at the Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre in London, Ontario for the purpose of showing monthly Christian films.
Gerrit and Susan Blok
With chaplains providing direction and encouragement, New Life volunteers began to see the powerful impact films had on many offenders. Within a very short time, the Blok’s were asked to conduct one-to-one visitation with men and women who requested follow-up visits.
In 1982, correspondence courses were launched to respond to the hunger for spiritual growth amongst men and women in prison.
Under the godly and visionary leadership of Gerrit and Susan Blok who served as leaders (1980-2014), the ministry grew rapidly as New Life students and chaplains spread the word about Bible courses throughout the prison system.
God has blessed the work of New Life, and lives have beenchanged for eternity.
Enough cannot be said about the important role played by the Blok’s who, through their sacrificial and dedicated service, were used by God to build New Life Prison Ministries into what it has become today.
